dead bird remnants

“Overall, my writing and revision process is focused on capturing overall moods. I nitpick and fine comb through my work in order to prioritize conciseness while still maintaining poetic grace. Or at least that’s what I’m hoping for.”

dead bird remnants

really just the wings
eerily akin to angel wings
sold for Halloween
stretched over the third rail
of the train tracks
the bird, what is left of the bird,
has been there
skewed and matted
barely recognizable
as the black and grey feathers of flight
for over a year
pressed closer and closer
to the rusting metal
with each train that runs across it
a pigeon death is not unusual
nor per se a loss
but should this corpse vanish
from its place on the tracks
I would mourn
