Videogames, what a pleasure,
Especially during the times of COVID-19.
A virtual world that simulates our actual world.
A time-suck, an instant pleasure
that sends me into a moment of euphoria and enjoyment while forgetting everything around me.
Helping me escape the stresses and troubles of reality.
A great way for me to keep my mind off the heavy workload that the day has for me.
From schoolwork to internship work to checking the seemingly infinite amount of emails I get each day.
The first three long emails I check in the beginning of my day causes me to instantly feel burnt out.
Looking at a screen and doing work there all day is boring.
We are locked up in our houses now, being on the internet more than ever.
Videogames have been a scapegoat for me.
With pleasure and enjoyment comes addiction
as sometimes I play from the moment I wake up till the moment I sleep.
I’m almost never careful; maybe that’s why I get sucked in all day.
Spending my days in the virtual world kicking ass and running around.
Fighting off hordes of zombies and running for safety.
Being attracted to the beautiful details and textures of the objects, sky, sun.
Eye pleasing visuals and a great sound system.
Like a drug, it gives me a sense of momentary achievement and satisfaction.
Making me want more afterwards.
For after its effects wear off, the anxiety, worry, and stress comes kicking in again.
Why would I ever want to leave if I could?
My name is Brian Yu and I am an undergraduate senior at DePaul University majoring in marketing with a concentration in digital marketing. I love to write because it is a way for me to bring out my creative side and to make the negative aspects and occurrences of my life into something positive. It helps me express myself while creating artwork for people to enjoy and helps myself find inner peace. In addition to writing, I like to travel, play video games, take photos, edit videos, play chess, and keep up with current affairs.
