Calling

The feedback process was invaluable. To me, art (and writing, of course) are all about communicating something to other people. The feedback I received let me know what was coming through, intended or otherwise. Checking in with another person helps me hone the message that I’m conveying.

the paper in my fortune cookie
tells me to write
so I do
no thought, only motion
Emotion

piecing together poetry
from the spare change
tucked into my couch cushions

another, over and on
I look forward to
waking up
my time and space to share
I plan on leaving soon

spend hours applying paint
throw it in the trash
spill coffee on the page
Publish it.

As a political theorist, a lot of my work often centers on how we live under the conditions of structural inequality. My poetry allows me to explore new answers, and I often return to themes of creation, trauma, and reconciliation. I’m interested in how art and aesthetics allow us to explore new possibilities without the pressure of having all the answers. In this way, my political work and my artwork are two sides of the same coin.
